HEAD & FACE TUTORIAL

Ok, the first tutorial is here ^_^
Let me tell you I'm not trying to impose any kind of technique that you must follow correctly as it says... I'm just trying to give you some useful tips that will surely make you draw more easily, and perhaps, develop your own personal technique later. Another thing... practice! Never let your guard down because you think it looks better (I thought the same, and later I realized how bad I drew =P), you should always push yourself to the limit, try something new, ok?

Enough talk, now let's go to work! What follows is the material we're gonna use for this tutorial...

MATERIAL:

~ A sheet of good paper (obviously ^_~)
~ A 0.5 mm propeller pencil (I use a Staedtler) with blue graphite (if you don't have blue graphite, you can use regular ones [I recommend HB]) - See pic
~If you like, you can use a regular pencil (I recommend a HB or F graduation)
~ An eraser (with enough practice you maybe won't use an eraser anymore)

I highly recommend you have some experience in anime/manga drawing style, it will be easier for you. Little by little you will develop your own drawing style, and soon, you won't be needing tutorials or complicated methods (like this one) to draw pretty pics ^_^
This is the basic form of a head. Depending on your style, will be the shape of the oval. I divided the oval in lines, that help us to correctly place the eyes, nose, mouth and ears.
Here I show you the correct form the eyes, nose and mouth should be placed inside your oval. Now it looks more like a face... a ghostly face *chuckles*.
A finished face looks more or less like this. After drawing the basic structure, you may proceed to add more definition to the drawing. The frontal view of a face is not as difficult as the ones made in perspective, but you will take long enough to make it look right and proportioned. Use a mirror to check if your drawing looks correct (it may sound dumb, but looking at the reflection of your drawing in a mirror will make you see the flaws the drawing has).
For a perfect profile, you may also want to use the same basic guide lines from the frontal view, so your faces will look alike and to maintain the style of it.

A woman's face is usually rounder, her chin is less pronunciated, her eyes are almost always bigger and rounder, her nose and lips are a bit smaller and her neck is considerably thinner than a man's.

This structure can also be used for children faces.
